Stare

about

I started this song a few years ago and mumbled a few phrases over the chords. It popped up on random when I was listening to music and I decided to finish it. I didn't actually have a clear idea as to what it was about, I just liked the imagery. Reading through afterwards, I think it might be about loss. But feel free to interpret it how you will.

lyrics

I thought I saw your eyes across the room
and everything became a little hazy
I’m never sure these days of what I think
or know or what might come of all my dreaming
But every now and then I feel the floor
beneath me lurch and I’m tumbling, tumbling, tumbling

And as I stare at the fire for hours
Caught under the stars in their silence
Half-hearted sighs at the memory of all that was lost
That night was ours but now I'm holding court alone

And now it's time to find a better way
Than the road I've been following lately
To find a braver face and brazen out
all my mistakes; and find a little meaning
But every now and then I feel the floor
beneath me lurch and I’m stumbling, stumbling, stumbling

All night long
I guess something's wrong
Feeling drawn and tired
