Falling Face Forward

by pedestrian zero

/

about

I wrote this song in a basement flat in Falmouth with a threadbare rug and an open fire back in 2019 but I didn't finish it until this year, when I added the last section.

It's about being honest with yourself, more than anything else.

---

lyrics

With little left to mourn
This house is feeling worn
The carpet that we tread left threadbare
A hundred fading sighs
A barely whispered outcry
An uninspiring four-leafed story

Remember how it felt when
Tired snow would melt
Then everything was new with
Colour cutting through

Coming up short every step of the way
Another sleepless night; another listless day
And nothing is hidden you're caught in the middle
And all goes unwritten
Further down the road where the bridges burn
There's another life lesson you're unwilling to learn
With all this to play for you wanted to say more
Now sooner or later you will pay

Dishonesty has taken so much time from me
And honestly it’s been a bitter destiny
But on a whim I opened up and now I see
That honesty could be the better policy

Truth will set you free
What's the matter anyway?
